"Are you sure you just had major surgery?"

My family and friends were amazed at my recovery after my robotic-assisted surgery at Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City. I couldn't believe it as well.

I could walk the very next day after surgery and was later discharged on Day 6. I went for an outing with my family on Week 2 and started yoga during Week 4.

I was diagnosed with a choledochal cyst in May this year. Surgery was recommended, and I refused because it sounded traumatic to me. However, my brother encouraged me to seek a second opinion. I came to Dr Yoong Boon Koon at Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City, who is one of the renowned hepatobiliary surgeons in Malaysia. Choledochal cysts can lead to various complications, including blockage of bile flow, infection, stone formation, and an increased risk of cancer; hence surgery is recommended.

I chose robotic surgery eventually. The recovery is superb, as is the cosmetic outcome. The incisions are small (8mm) and barely noticeable. I can resume my lifestyle as before, playing with my two cute Chihuahuas, painting, and practising yoga.

Don't be afraid to seek medical treatment and always ask about your options. It was an unforgettable journey for me, and I’m grateful to have met Dr Yoong Boon Koon, who performed an excellent surgery.
